this baby...

...is so cute. I can't get over it.

But she is so bad. So so bad. She finds food, socks. Mysteriously opens closed doors. But she hasn't been a puppy to try to escape, unlike the other three.

Until last night.

I get a call from Hank (brother) last night about 9 pm saying there was no sign of Sallie anywhere.

Heart. in. my. throat. In the middle of the basketball game.

And she was set to get her microchip put in today and didn't have a collar on. Of course. She and Honey just love pulling each other's collars off when they're outside and losing them.

Anyway, sweet Hank tore himself away from watching the game to go look for the baby.

He found her, thank the Lord, trotting along in the back of the neighborhood. Having a ball.

She is at the vet right now. I'm demanding a steel wall be erected around the yard stat.

so sweet

Who says the NIT is second rate? Hometown boys wrestled with St. John's last night, and came out on top thanks to a sweet is-it-in-or-out shot from Wesley Witherspoon ("spoon" if you ask my brother hank, "dubya dubya" if you ask the man who sat next to me). It was by far the most exciting bball gave I've ever been to. Go Tigers!

Photos to come...

life of the party

Since I've gotten into photography, I've spent a considerable amount of time rooting around in attics and rummaging through drawers for old family photos. My dad's mom has stacks and stacks of gems of her and my grandad from when they were newlyweds and about my age - him in the war and her at home waiting for him. I have several enlarged and framed on my mantel and in my dining room. It's one of the first decorating decisions I made.

My mom's mom didn't have such a treasure trove. I found a few photos of when my mom and her siblings were young, but none of my grandmother (Bebe) when she was young. She passed away recently, and as my mom and I were sorting through some of her things this weekend, I made a last ditch effort, methodically going through every closet, every album to uncover some hidden treasures. Buried under a mountain of scarves in the "big den" - isn't it funny how families develop strange names for rooms in their house? We have a "workshop" that's become a playroom but kept the name. Maybe that's just us.

Anyway...this shot is such a treasure! It is her personality to a tee. She always knew how to command a room and was always dressed to the nines. I love that this looks like it could be ripped from Vogue today. Wish I could find that dress and bag. Needless to say, I'm making a trip to Wolf this weekend to blow this baby up.

60 years later with her boyfriend John. Still the life of the party.

love at first bite

I picked up my goods from Muddy's today, and they did not disappoint.

Wow. I told them to surprise me with an assortment from the case, and I'm having trouble deciding which to devour first. That orange beauty front and center is in the lead. There's also a carrot cake that's hiding out in the back right corner that is a close second. Who ever decided to put carrots in cake anyway? Whoever it was is one smart kid. They are just the taste of spring.

Moving along to the main attraction. Drumroll...

There she is. Mrs. Cocoa Chanel herself. I had barely set my camera down before I had hacked into her with a knife. I would have taken a picture of the glorious inside, but my pie cutting skills leave much to be desired. Here's Muddy's photo, but even it doesn't do this justice. The crust is so buttery and not dry at all, and the filling reminds me of brownie batter but smoother. It's rich for sure, but plays well against the savory crust. I'm usually not a pie person, but this looker won me over.

Here are the stickers. They turned out great!

Thanks Muddy's!

It's been with me this month for sure!

Exhibit A:

Back in October-ish I entered a bumper sticker design contest for my favorite hometown bake shop, Muddy's. The prize was quite a jackpot - 12 cupcakes, a pie of choice and 5 stickers. All winter the little contest was in the back of my mind. I had all but lost hope when last week I got an email from owner Kat that my sticker was one of three winners! What?? So today I am going to claim my loot (I picked the cocoa chanel pie). My mouth's watering already!

Exhibit B:

Today I won my first blog giveaway from Tonya at Kotori. It's some lotion that looks wonderful and could not come at a better time for these dry winter hands. I've been entering these giveaways for months and thought I was cursed, but I guess March is my month!

I'll have to hold a giveaway of my own before long to pass on the love.

Now if I can just remember to wear green tomorrow...could be a challenge.

weekend snaps. 3/14/10

Gave the puppies a bath at the pet store, which proved to be more stressful than hoped, but was good for a picture at least.

Honey waiting her turn.

Pretty backyard sunrise.

Kicked off the shoes to watch some basketball.

Honey was sad it was too rainy and cold for the park. Spring's soon, Hon.

Maddi was content to keep hibernating.

Concert downtown.

Good lazy weekend.
